During a respite stay at Norwood House, guests receive exactly the same high standard of care as our long-term residents — 24-hour support from trained and compassionate staff, assistance with personal care, medication management, and access to visiting health professionals including GPs, physiotherapists, district nurses, and chiropodists. If your loved one has dementia or other specific care needs, our experienced team is fully equipped to provide appropriate, sensitive support throughout their stay.

Activities, Meals, and Social Connection

A respite stay at Norwood House is far more than simply a safe place to be. Guests are warmly invited to join in with our daily activities programme — including music sessions, quizzes, arts and crafts, baking, gardening, gentle exercise, bingo, and much more — all tailored to individual interests and abilities. Our in-house chef provides delicious home-cooked meals, and our café area is always open for tea, coffee, and a friendly chat.

Many guests find that a respite stay provides a welcome opportunity to enjoy companionship and social connection. Our communal lounges, dining room, sensory garden, and beautiful secure outdoor spaces all provide inviting places to spend time, both alone and with others.

Rehabilitation and Re-enablement

For guests recovering from illness, injury, or surgery, Norwood House offers a supportive environment for rehabilitation. Our team works alongside physiotherapists and other health professionals to support each person's recovery goals, helping them regain confidence and independence before returning home. Our Main Hall is equipped with a personal kitchen for residents and guests to use as part of a re-enablement programme.

Support for Families and Carers

We recognise that handing over the care of a loved one, even temporarily, requires real trust. Our team is always available to provide updates, answer questions, and offer reassurance. Visitors are welcome at any time, and we will keep you informed of how your loved one is settling in throughout their stay.

If you would like your family member to see the home before their stay, we are happy to arrange a visit in advance so they can meet the team and become familiar with the surroundings — which we find makes a real difference to how quickly guests feel at home.
